Swsoft hikes prices of Plesk Control Panel :-(

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

This email is to notify you that there have been some significant changes concerning licensing with the Plesk control panel that you are using.  Swsoft changed it’s name this year to Parallels and with that came a radical increase in pricing.  This pricing increase is across the board from their retail prices to their contract prices with even their biggest clients.

You are currently using a dedicated server with unlimited domains in Plesk and this currently costs $25/mo.  The same license is now going to cost $69.99/mo if you are to stay on this unlimited domain license.  We are not marking this license cost up at all so we really are not able to lower it at all.

We have always felt that Plesk was an inferior control panel for many reasons.  Parallels is also a very difficult company to work with as you can imagine with this new price increase of almost 200%!  In order to accommodate our clients, we are going to keep our relationship with Parallels but we cannot offer any discount off of the pricing that we are getting from them.  These pricing changes will be effective as of the 31st of this month and there are few options that you can do:

Cpanel - dcpumon - Eating your server diskspace????

Monday, May 19th, 2008

dcpumon is a cpanel script for CPU/Memory accounting which stores percentage values of CPU and Memory usage under /var/log/dcpumon.

The script itself is of no use, it just generates statistics at the above directory. What is interesting is that there is a script for reading all that data and displays your top CPU/Memory eaters! As a result, it can be very useful if you are trying to figure out what is eating your CPU.

So, further we can read its content, running the script: /usr/local/cpanel/bin/dcpumonview

Mail exploit windows plesk 7.5 , 8.3

Monday, April 28th, 2008

It has been noticed with recent plesk releases, it creates a catch-all address called ‘trash54321@domain.com’ with the numbers being a random string. This mailbox is not visible from the Plesk interface and exists even if catch-alls are turned off for the domain. The exploit in this is that the password for this account is set the same as the username.
If someone could somehow discover the username for that catch-all account, they could log in and use the account to relay.

The issue is worth discussed in the plesk forum and i found to be useful for those  facing this issue. [URL]

FIX: You experience high memory usage in the W3wp.exe process on a Windows Server 2003-based computer that has Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 installed

Monday, March 10th, 2008

This is now an important issues with those are working around in windows iis6.  Microsoft have reported the heavy memory usage in w3wp.exe worker process is due to transfer of a large HTTP response that is generated by an Active Server Pages (ASP) application to a client computer. An example of an ASP method that can generate this large HTTP response is the Response.BinaryWrite method. The memory usage in the W3wp.exe process may be as high as the size of the whole HTTP response that is being transferred. Typically, this problem occurs when the client computer uses a slow connection link.
